Aruba has excellent medical centres and a state-of-the-art hospitals to handle any emergency during your holiday.
When choosing Aruba as your holiday destination, rest assured that when it comes to medical emergencies, such as a sudden illness or an accident, you are in good hands.
Our hotels are equipped with handicapped facilities and Aruba has multiple organisations that offer healthcare products, such as (beach) wheelchairs, crutches, concentrators, scooters and bedpans, for our visitors with special needs. Most hotels have medical doctors and dentists on call and appointments can be made through your hotel's front desk.
Aruba has three modern medical centres spread out over the island, the Dr. Horacio Oduber hospital which functions as Aruba's general hospital in Oranjestad, the private Urgent Care Clinic in Noord and the Centro Medico Rudy Engelbrecht in San Nicolas. If you cannot be treated here, the Aruba hospital does offer overseas care with, among others, American, Colombian and Dutch hospitals and the patient will be quickly airlifted by air ambulance. Be aware that not all insurances are accepted here so you may possibly have to pay for your doctor or hospital visit by cash or credit card.
In case of emergencies, one chemist’s in each district is open for 24 hours on a rotating basis, but they cannot fill a prescription from a doctor who is not practising on the island. They will, however, advise you on how to obtain one if necessary.

Our Horacio Oduber Hospital boasts a 280-bed hospital equipped with reputable medical staff and modern equipment. The hospital, which opened in 1976, is located opposite the Costa Linda Beach Resort and the Alhambra Bazaar and Casino. Services such as oxygen tanks and haemodialysis are available. It functions as a general hospital with established ties to the U.S., Colombian, Venezuelan, Puerto Rican and Dutch hospitals for specialised treatment and care. The hospital does offer overseas medium cardiac care, haemodialysis and emergency care as well as provide specialists in a wide range of fields. In case of an emergency all travellers can go to accident and emergency, where they will be attended. The Emergency Department has an attending physician on site 24 hours a day. The Pro-Air Ambulance service is certified to fly to all cities in the United States. Their aircraft, equipped as an ICU unit, can provide medical personnel for the flight. Pro-Air makes arrangements for ambulance services to the airport and handles all customs and immigration procedures both in Aruba and at the destination. Payment can be made by insurance that covers air ambulance transport, credit card and bank transfer. Centro Medico: Dr. Rudy Engelbrecht is located in San Nicolas and is equipped with a reputable medical staff and modern medical equipment. Consulting hours are Monday to Friday 8 am to 12 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm. Emergency assistance is available 24 hours, seven days a week. All physicians are licensed and certified in Holland and the United States, with some from South America. The attending nurses have received their degrees either in Holland, the US or locally. The local in-service training is Dutch certified. The principal operating language in the hospital is Dutch. English is widely spoken and written as well as Papiamento and Spanish.
