Xa On The Go: Not concrete jungle but jungle on the concrete. Bohemian is the definition of a tropical restaurant.

Did you know that smack-dab in the middle of Palm Beach, there’s a little jungle paradise called Bohemian?

Yes, Aruba is beautiful. The turquoise blue water, white sand, and perfect weather are amazing. But sometimes, especially in the Palm Beach area, it can get a little, well, too concretey. Yes, I just invented a word. It is perfect for a night out. You’re able to wear nice clothes, nice shoes, etc. But sometimes, you want to feel like you are dining in the tropical paradise that you are—surrounded by trees, plants, and flowers, in the open air with good music and food. True to the boho style, Bohemian restaurant embraces an eclectic and artsy ambiance. The decor is vintage, colorful, and uniquely mismatched, making it the perfect laid-back dining spot.

I had the opportunity to chat with owner David, who (along with his father and brother) also owns Casa Tua Pizzeria. It was there, sitting down for dinner at Casa Tua, that the idea came to David. While looking across the street, he noticed the empty lot in front of the Barceló resort. Especially the remarkable big tree in the middle. Inspired by his visits to his home country France, where “everything is outdoors,” he envisioned a different type of restaurant experience. One that would fit perfectly around that magnificent tree. His idea became a reality when Barceló approved his request to convert the lot into what is now Bohemian restaurant. After one year of building, while trying to cause as little harm as possible to the natural surroundings, the doors were ready to open.

Offering delicious French and “world cuisine,” a unique ambiance, and an incredible wine selection, Bohemian quickly became a must-try restaurant for locals and visitors. The outdoor lounge vibe, personalized playlist, good food, and beret-wearing waiters come together for the perfect backyard experience.

Fun fact: Did you know that 95% of their wine (about 30.000 bottles a year) is imported from a vineyard in the South of France? Oh mon Dieu!

The menu includes French classics such as foie gras, coq au vin, and duck magret (David’s favorite), but what surprised me was the “world” dishes such as a Spanish Paella and Pata Negra (Iberico ham). Even the tuna tartare had an Asian twist. The combination of spring onions, sesame oil, balsamic glaze, and cilantro was like a refreshing fusion of French and Japanese cuisine. Not surprising since the inventor of the tuna tartare was a French-trained Japanese chef. It aaaall makes sense. The grilled octopus served with a cream of potato and spicy aioli still shows up in my dreams every now and then.

On Fridays and Saturdays, the restaurant turns into a house and techno club. From French dining to people dancing on tables. The videos David showed me looked incredibly fun. Partying in Aruba like you’re in the South of France? Sign me up!

Overall, the ambiance is what really sets Bohemian apart from the rest. David tells his staff, always serve with a smile and kindness. That, in combination with everything else, makes it a must-try spot!
