Lucor Jewelers celebrates 40th anniversary

Lucor Jewelers celebrates 40th anniversary

Lucor Jewelers, one of Aruba's oldest jewelers, celebrated their 40th anniversary this year on the 15th of July. In this article you can read all about the history of this family owned company!

Lucor Jewelers was founded as a family business on July 15th 1976 by late Cornelio Vis and Ludwina Vis-Kock.

Cornelio Vis had worked at the former Spritzer & Fuhrmann for 10 years and then decided to open his own jewelry and goldsmith store.

From the beginning Cornelio Vis and Ludwina Vis, were directors of Lucor Jewelers; when Cornelio passed away in 1991, Ludwina Vis stayed as the only director to date.

Lucor was situated in Oranjestraat and on May 23rd 1980, they entered their own building at the Hendrikstraat # 5.

In 1987, they bought the second building situated at the Caya G. F. (Betico) Croes # 20 (former Nassaustraat # 20) and opened another branch in November. This same year they opened their third location in the Holland Aruba Mall.

In 1988, Lucor Jewelers became Lucor Jewelry N. V.

In October 1991 another Lucor was opened at the Reina Beatrix Airport, and the fourth Lucor Jewelers opened its doors in Costa Linda Hotel in February 1992. In September 1995 another baby of Lucor was born at the Seaport Market Place.

In total 6 jewelry stores with 30 employees. Little by little they closed them down as competition  in the jewelry business was fierce; only two stores were  kept: one at the Caya Betico Croes and one in the Hendrikstraat, as those two buildings were our own properties. In 2005 we closed down Caya G. F. Croes # 20 and sold the building to Penha N. V.

When we celebrated our 20th anniversary, we organized a big campaign which consisted of a drawing competition for the children of Aruba. We handed out color pencils of the famous Swiss brand CARAN   D’ACHE to the total value of Awg. 5,000.- to 150 winners of the drawing competition. We donated 2 ladies watches and 2 gents watches especially designed for the visually impaired people to F.A.V.I., which is a foundation for visually impaired people. Also, 3 envelopes with checks were donated to 3 charity organizations.

In 2002, Bituel Vis, who is a certified goldsmith and also manager of the goldsmith department and son of late Cornelio Vis and Ludwina Vis, was appointed by a government committee to make an 18kt. Yellow gold brooch and pin, with “hooiberggiet” embraced by diamond detail endings for Crown Prince Willem Alexander and Princess Maxima on the occasion of their visit to Aruba. The brooch and pin were designed by local artist/art teacher Ciro Abath.

We are proud to celebrate our 40 years in jewelry business this year, on 15th of July 2016.
